Bear Cornered in Downtown Vancouver

It’s common to hear stories of bears in North/West Vancouver and the Coquitlam/Tri-Cities area too, but one showing up right in the middle of downtown Vancouver (Cambie and Georgia) is more than somewhat strange! And only stranger is that it was found on top of a garbage truck!

When I first heard off this (it just happened minutes ago… breaking news!), I wanted to write about how we humans have messed up nature so much that bears are having to find food downtown now (the variety of Vancouver’s multicultural eateries is just that alluring!), but by actually reading the CBC news article instead of making up my own story (which is usually way more exciting…), it offered the likely scenario that the bear was rummaging through a dumpster when the garbage truck came and emptied the dumpster picking up the bear with all the garbage. And then when looking at the picture below, I decided that the truck wasn’t a city truck at all and could have come from anywhere (likely the areas where bears are known the make their way into town) and that this is really a non-story altogether. Disappointed as I still wanted to write about how crazy a bear downtown is, you get this non-story!

But seriously… imagine walking along a downtown sidewalk and have a bear jump off some truck right in front of you…

… hope you brought your bear mace downtown!

(The use of bearly no puns in this article was unbearable! But it wouldn’t be a real news story without ending with a beary punny joke…)
