Aflockalypse Now

All over the world, thousands of birds are falling from the sky either dead or dying. Thousands of blackbirds in Arkansas, tens of thousands of birds in Manitoba (I’m pretty sure this one is fake but I’m keeping in here to emphasize a point on how easy it is to follow misleading and intentionally falsified articles), thousands of dead birds in South America, 500 dead blackbirds in Louisiana, Dozens of dead birds in Kentucky, hundreds of dead birds in Sweeden (is in Swedish, use Google Translate), thousands of dead turtle doves in Italy, 200 dead birds in Texas, 150 dead birds in Tennessee and even more places are still reporting dead birds falling out of the sky (this is a map of all the cases… if you are going to check out any links, check this one!).

When investigated, the cause of death appeared to be physical trauma. Many excuses were thrown at us such as New Years Eve fireworks, pockets of methane gas, and high power electrical lines being the cause of the deaths. But as the cases keep popping up across the globe, these ideas are being slowly phased out. So what could cause these bird deaths on a global scale?

The first thing that comes to mind is that some weird and/or extreme weather pattern may have caused this mass killing. Taking a look at the weather above Arkansas during the arial massacre via radar (watch the video in top right of the page) indicates a colourful blob at an altitude about 1400 feet that doesn’t move with the rest of the clouds and is not precipitation. Birds are known to appear on radar, but observers reported that the birds were flying very low that night as they were flying into cars and mailboxes.

The few months leading up to the New Year had several reports across the world of the H5N1 avian influenza (aka the Bird Flu) being discovered in amongst dead birds. These reports come from Japan, South Korea and India. There were no reports of this strain of flu spreading to humans. Hmm… Problem solved! Or is it?

The birds are not the only animals that are dropping dead in mass numbers. 100,000 dead fish along 20 miles of the Arkansas River, 100 tons of sardines, croaker and catfish dead near Rio De Janeiro, 100s of dead fish in Michigan, 100s of dead fish in Ontario, 1000s of dead fish in Florida, over 2 million dead fish in Maryland, 40,000 dead crabs in England, and hundreds of dead red snapper in New Zealand. And it sure isn’t the Bird Flu that’s causing these deaths!

Now before I get too weird, many have blamed this on the dispersant chemical Corexit used in excess during the BP oil spill (please refer to my previous Conspiracy Hour “Deepwater Disaster” for more info on the detrimental effects of Corexit… let me know if you need it sent again) saying that it has made it’s way into the food supply of these animals and is poisoning them. Now this doesn’t seem to make too much sense when cases from all across the globe are being reported and not localized to the Gulf Of Mexico, and all within such a short period of time, but who am I to say? Birds do fly great distances and oceans currents do circulate the waters of the world…

Of course the conspiracy nuts are all worked up and yelling “HAARP did this”. Let me refresh you on HAARP (please see previous Conspiracy Hour “HAARP”… you see how the pieces are starting to fall into place? How one conspiracy affects the other? There is a beautiful tapestry of conspiracies being woven… just wait for it!)… it is a US military installment that studies the ionosphere by blasting it with high energy frequencies. Sounds harmless to me (gawd, sarcasm is hard to get across in type!). But there are thoughts that this antenna array is much more sinister than admitted (with good reason… when is the military interested in something that doesn’t further the interests of war?) and can manipulate weather and control thinking patterns. And because of these mysterious possible abilities, this ‘weapon’ gets blamed for anything that seems unexplainable, including the death of the birds and fish. Now I could image that crazy energy waves could easily fry the brains of flocks of birds, and fish as well, but there may be another [more plausible] explanation….

So let’s take a step away from such ‘crazy’ ideas and look back to science and logic to help figure this one out… Both birds and fish use the Earth’s magnetic field to navigate the large distances they travel. The magnetic field shifts slightly on a daily basis and every year, the magnetic north pole is in a very different spot than the year before. But over the last few years, the magnetic pole has shifted much more drastically than previous years. And even more recently, the magnetic pole’s shift is accelerating (moved 40 miles toward Russia in one day). Don’t ask me how this would affect the birds and fish in such a fatal way as not even the brightest of our scientists fully understand how the magnetic field is used by these creatures, but the crazy storms going on the sun today greatly affect the magnetic field as it is what protects us from all the harmful rays the Sun sends our way (just a side note… the solar cycle is 11 years long with the peak of solar activity being 2001… do the math yourself and you’ll see where I’m heading here…). Sounds like this theory could hold some water… but I’m not finished with it yet!…

And now a step back to the realm of ‘crazy’ to a topic that I have not yet touched on due to the quantity of theories and lack of any substantial proof (but isn’t it always that way with conspiracies?)… 2012. There are so many ideas of what is to happen, but the one that seems to be coming true right before our eyes is the reversal of the magnetic poles. This is scientifically proven to have happened in the past and is expected to happen in the future. It is also expected that it happens fairly abruptly. Could we be seeing the beginning signs of the infamous 2012 End Times? (again with the sarcasm… 2012 isn’t about The End Of The World as much as it is about The Beginning Of The New Age…) And just throwing this idea out there (which I personally don’t want to believe in, but…)… some say that the magnetic reversal will actually affect the magnetic materials that make up the planet’s core and that could shift creating the End Of The World scenario played out in the super awesome Hollywood movie 2012.

Doom and gloom aside, birds die as do fish. And it is not uncommon for large numbers of fish and birds to die with no obvious or reasonable explanation. Somewhere around 160 cases like these ones are reported every year, but hasn’t been a large topic for discussion in the media until this year. So why is this any different? Are they trying to create fear and paranoia (we all know that fear is a great tool for control, if not just a brilliant marketing ploy)? When reading the comments below many of the news articles i linked to, there seems to be a lot of talk about the HAARP ‘weapon’ and mistrust towards both the media and the government. Could this be the reaction that they are looking for and that they are just blowing the whole issue out of proportion?

Or maybe it is strange that 30+ cases have developed worldwide in the first week of the year…
