Warren Ellis
Of course growing up, my brother and I would always buy lots of comics to read at the beach. We focused mainly on Conan, but had lots of Spiderman, X-men, Heavy Metal and such. The problems with comics is that are 3-4$ each. Maaaaaan. Takes about 4 min to read = 1$ a min = 60$ an hour….
With the advent of the internet and torrentz one can now download packs of comics to peruse at your leisure (check out DCP). Of course if one really likes the entertainment, then buying a few to support the industry is only fair play. Another advantage of this delivery mechanism is the exposure of lesser known titles that may not make the mainstream (Not Marvel/DC/etc)
Every time I read one of these and think – wow that was freaking awesome, who wrote this – 9 times out of 10 it is Warren Ellis.
Check out Next Wave, The Authority, No Hero and Ignition City – All great stories, sweet art. Of course he does write some mainstream stuff for Marvel which is also good, but its good to read ideas out of the standard comic universe.
